Pantone Matching System

In the early 1960's as Lawrence Herbert drove to work in a blue Cadillac with cherry red seats, he mulled over a problem: How to create a "universal language" of color. Herbert, the owner of the Pantone printing company had just produced a retail display card that helped shoppers choose pantyhose. The solution, he realized, was to create a universal color system in which each shade was expressed as a number. "If someone in New York wanted something dyed in Tokyo, they would simply open up the book and say, 'Give me Pantone 123'". And PMS, the Pantone Matching System, was born; which in the ensuing 50 years has truly become the international language of color. Today we regularly get requests for custom colors directly from the PMS book. It's quick, easy, and eliminates the time, trouble, and expense of mailing swatches back and forth. So get yourself a PMS book and let's get those custom orders going!! Operators are standing by.

The most unusual use of the Pantone Matching System: Calvin Klein kept a Pantone chip in the kitchen to signal to his chef what color he wanted his coffee to be.

Goodbye Kalahari - Hellooooooo Granada

Goodbye Kalahari

Low-profile ribbed loop-pile wool at a very affordable price point is a very important category for our customers since it appeals to such a wide audience. You might then wonder why we've chosen to discontinue Kalahari (check our specials list for available remaining inventory) since it fits that category perfectly. Granada is a better product at the same great price with the added benefits of a cleaner tailored finish, a more viable selection of 'full-house' natural color-ways, and the use of pure New Zealand Wool. In total yards sold, Granada has a really proven track record, ranking third among all Unique products: A very worthy successor. If you haven't had the opportunity to sell it, give it a try. Why show the same low end synthetic that all your competitors show when you can show wool. Happy customers are guaranteed. It's durable, affordable, and virtually problem-free.

English Sheep - Well Fed and Well Conditioned

Champion racehorses burst from their starting boxes and charge towards the finish line, eager to win. Racing sheep, by contrast, usually prefer to amble. That's why horse races are more popular than sheep races. But an English farmer claims one of his racing rams establised a world record by covering a 220 yard course, which included a ewe-turn, in just 17 seconds (Hey, we're just reporting this stuff. The ewe turn wasn't our idea). The Hoo farm in Shropshire, England, is famous for sheep steeplechasing. In fact, at one time, the hurdles for steeplechasing contained flocks of, you know, sheep. No wonder the English are noted for great quality wool (as used in Cascade Naturals, Sierral Naturals, Stratford, and Four Seasons), their sheep are free to roam the English countryside in search lush, natural grasses AND are offered any number of healthy excercise programs as well.
